A calendar can look right on screen and still print smaller than expected. Match the document to the paper first, then check the print dialog. Use the calculator to see the dimensions of a full calendar page and open the editor with the same paper and orientation.
Check your calendar’s print size
Choose the settings you plan to use. The result describes one full PNG page before any viewer or printer scaling.
Page: 210 × 297 mm
PNG: 2,480 × 3,508 pixels at 300 DPI
The calculation does not measure a printer’s unprintable margins or promise a file size. PDF text and lines remain vector graphics.
Use these paper settings in the monthly editorA4 and Letter calendar dimensions
A4 portrait is 210 × 297 mm. US Letter portrait is 8.5 × 11 inches, or 215.9 × 279.4 mm. Landscape exchanges the width and height. Letter is wider and shorter than A4, so switching paper can change the room available for dates and event labels. Select the paper actually loaded in the printer before exporting.
The table gives the pixel dimensions of one complete page. Multi-page calendars keep these dimensions for each image; the table does not add all pages into one tall image. Values are rounded to the nearest whole pixel, matching MonthSprig’s PNG exporter.
| Paper and orientation | Page size (mm) | 150 DPI PNG (pixels) | 300 DPI PNG (pixels) |
|---|---|---|---|
| A4 portrait | 210 × 297 | 1240 × 1754 | 2480 × 3508 |
| A4 landscape | 297 × 210 | 1754 × 1240 | 3508 × 2480 |
| Letter portrait | 215.9 × 279.4 | 1275 × 1650 | 2550 × 3300 |
| Letter landscape | 279.4 × 215.9 | 1650 × 1275 | 3300 × 2550 |
How the PNG calculation works
For each edge, pixels = millimetres ÷ 25.4 × DPI, rounded to the nearest whole pixel. A4’s 210 mm edge at 300 DPI is 210 ÷ 25.4 × 300 = 2480.315…, giving 2480 pixels. The other edge is calculated separately. Orientation changes which edge is the width.
Choosing 300 rather than 150 DPI doubles each pixel dimension and produces about four times as many pixels per page. It does not enlarge the intended physical paper. Compressed file bytes vary with the content, and a higher DPI cannot create extra writing space. For a sharp printable calendar, the PDF keeps text and lines as vectors.
Check the paper and scaling together
In Acrobat, Actual size prints without scaling; Fit scales the page to the selected printable area. Even when the paper name matches, a printer can have edges it cannot print. Inspect the preview before choosing the setting, and print a single test page before a long academic calendar.
If an edge is clipped, confirm the physical paper, document paper and orientation. Increase the calendar’s margins or use the viewer’s fit option when appropriate. Avoid stretching a PNG to fill a different paper shape: that can distort the date boxes. A printer’s borderless setting and physical margins are outside this calculator.
Use the result with your calendar
Choose paper and orientation above, then follow the editor link. It carries those two settings into the monthly editor. Set the dates and events there, inspect the busiest day and last row, and choose 150 or 300 DPI in the PNG download options. The calculator does not set the download resolution for you.
Open the downloaded file and compare its page or image dimensions with the table. Keep the JSON project backup if you will edit the calendar again. A downloaded PDF or PNG is a snapshot and does not update when the editor changes.
